About Tony Iovino

Two careers. One decidedly practical point of view.

Tony Iovino's professional career has taken an unusual path—from law firm managing partner to public library administrator, with a few books, hundreds of programs and more than a little community-building along the way.

Tony earned his B.A. from the University of Richmond and his J.D. from St. John's University School of Law. He spent more than three decades practicing law, including serving as managing partner and head of litigation of a Long Island law firm that he helped create and build.

He later returned to school and earned his Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Kentucky, where he received the Melody Trosper Award. He joined the Oceanside Library in 2015 and served as Assistant Director until his retirement in 2025.

At Oceanside, Tony developed and expanded innovative programming, community partnerships, and library services, while working extensively in administration, governance, facilities, and advocacy. He spearheaded the passage of a $33.5 million dollar bond and led the design and creation of the Library's new building, which opened in 2024.

Tony is a Senior Policy Fellow at EveryLibrary Institute and speaks and writes on library programming, community engagement, management, advocacy and the changing role of public libraries.

He is also the author of the novel Notary Public Enemy and the poetry collection From the Land of Sidewalks and Lawns.

Through Iovino Advisory, Tony now combines the experiences of both careers—bringing a lawyer's analytical approach and a library administrator's practical experience to the libraries, organizations and people he works with.
